What's Your Point
of View?
An excellent way to capture energy in your photography is with POV (“point of view”) shots. This means taking a shot during the heat of action, ensuring to include the foreground in the frame (the hood of your car or the deck of your kayak, for example). The result is that viewers see the situation in which you took the photo exactly, and can imagine sitting in your seat.
Safety is the first priority. POV shots are great from cars—but only if the passenger is shooting. (Try slowing the shutter speed to get a crisp dashboard and hood, with a blurred road speeding underneath.) Be careful on bikes, too. Handlebars make a great foreground, but make sure the bike is not moving.
