10: “Girls Like Me” —X-quisite (featuring Face)
Led by founding member, model, actor and MTV host Nicole Holness, X-Quisite hit the airwaves by storm in 2002 with “No Regrets” followed by “Bad Girl” and “Sassy Thang”. Likely to follow this trend, this catchy hip-hip and pop track probably won’t keep this “girl in the background” when you’re dancing in the clubs this summer.

12: “Oh My Dear” —Lindsay Jane
An inciteful singer and songwriter, it’s hard to give Lindsay Jane’s eclectic and jazzy cabaret folk with a bluegrass twist justice in words, so perhaps we’ll leave the descriptions up to her. Sounds like: “ If James Taylor, Eric Clapton and Bonnie Rait had a three-some... The sound of fresh jam spreading on rye toast!” Her latest album Lovers find Reason, released last year, is definitely worth picking up.

14: “The Evil Room” —Star Collector
This four-piece band from Vancouver embraces 1970’s Americana rock and british power-pop achieving a moody, groovin’ alternative rock track with catchy and melodious guitar riffs. Exclaiming “the future is ours” this track might as well be an ode to their success; already on their fourth album
Hundred-Bullet-Proof, Star Collector has toured europe three times and is “shooting for mars”.

15: “Amy” —Randy Hutchings
A sad country, pop and atmospheric rock song about a girl who just “wants to be somebody”. Hutchings’ acoustic guitar tracks are worthy of “sitting in a red velour chair after inhaling a cigarette on a balcony.” More mopey than groovy.

16: “Consider This” —Lindsay Ell
Drawing inspiration from Pat Metheny, Jimmy Hendrix and Stevie Ray Vaughan, Ell doesn’t plan on fading into the background. Discovered at only 15 by Randy Bachman from The Guess Who, this Calgary native is savouring her ability to carry leads and to “play like a guy”. This edgy pop track with a blues and jazzy feel about a girl ready to leave a man “lonely and broken hearted” is a first look at her debut album coming out this year.
